DIY Party Piñata

Items Needed:
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Pen
  • Something to make any shape with (i.e. Sun hat, Bowl)
  • Tissue Paper
  • Streamers
  • Craft Glue

To begin, gather your cardboard, scissors, pen and whatever you decided to make a shape with. Place your item over the cardboard and trace it with the pen. Cut out your shape. Make another identical shape so that there is two. These will be your front and back pieces.
Now begin on your border pieces. Make these as thick as you want your Piñata to be. Make e pieces that will go completely along the edges, the more the better. Remember this needs to be easily ripped apart by small children or in my case.. Adults!
Make sure you leave a gap to put your candy inside afterwards.
Run your border pieces along the edge of a table to loosen the stiffness. This will help you minipulate the shape of the cardboard so you can easily attach it to rounded edges.

Tape the border pieces along the edge of your shape spiratically. Make sure the tape will not come off of the cardboard. DO NOT add too much tape, again this needs to easily be ripped apart, but still needs to hold its shape and candy inside.
(I used regular scotch tape and some electrical tape)
Then add crafting glue to the surface of one of the sides, this whole surface will be covered so dont go overboard right here.

Place a piece of the tissue paper over the whole surface and trim the edges. This surface will be once again covered, so do not worry about seeing the glue and tape at this point.

Take your streamers and (in separate sections and starting from the outside of your shape) go along the edges working your way in the the very middle. As you go along try and gather the streamer so it gives a ruffle effect. On top of that you can add decals or decorate with other colors of streamers to make anything you like!

...your finished product...

Enjoy!
