DIY Theme Parties

To start any themed party you must first of course, pick a theme. Think about what the colors of your theme are and how you can not only get your theme across to an audience but incorporate those colors and make sure that when those colors are tied together it looks like the theme and not tye-dye vomit.

We chose Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

We began by sending out handmade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Invitations.
(If your not and artist or good with art, print out a picture and make copies at your local fex-ex or staples store, then cut and glue those pictures to folded cardstock which can be purchased at any Michaels Craft Store. Its an easy and fun way to save tons of money.)
The GREAT thing about this theme is that each Ninja Turtle has a different color mask, so that made it really easy as far as theme colors went. We had Green, Red, Blue, Orange and Purple to work with. Now the story with T.M.N.T is that they eat green ooze and mutate into T.M.N.T. so we had to do something similar for the kids. We created ooze by using green jell-o and cornstarch. After the kids ate that we attached a mask on them (which were just strips of  Red, Blue, Orange and Purple material with eye holes) and a turtle shell (which was just material and cotton)  and VOILA they mutated!

Next, we had to figure out games, we thought of "turtle, turtle, shredder" as a "duck, duck, goose" alternative. We also did "pin the mask on raphael" instead of "pin the tail on the donkey." Lastly, we did a twist on musical chairs with PIZZA BOXES!!

I think its a known fact that any party MUST have a Pinata!!

We also had to think about cake, whats a party without cake? So we created a small cake and tons of cupcakes! The Cake had a slight notch taken out for a 3D effect on the top for the eyes and nose of the cake (Picture below will show) follwed by being covered in green frosting and some red for the mask. Melting chocolate was used for the eyes and mouth (It can be bought in tubes for tedious work such as this) and the cupcakes were just green frosting with different colored friut roll ups as masks. The eyes once again was black and white melting chocolate.
